Fr. Steve’s Column 11-27-2022

The season of Advent is upon us!  I know it seems to sneak up pretty quickly every year, but today we begin our four-week preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas.  We all know how busy and commercialized this season can be, so it’s so important that we take full advantage of Advent so that all of those other things don’t distract us from the real meaning of this season.

In addition to your own personal practices of prayer and service this Advent, our parish is offering several ways for you to make this season meaningful:

We’ll be offering our 5:30pm Tuesday evening Mass each week of Advent, a great opportunity for folks who aren’t able to make our weekday morning Masses.

We’ll also offer a lot of additional opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation:

6pm every Tuesday, right after the 5:30pm Mass

Tuesday December 20th at 7pm

Thursday December 22nd at 7pm

Friday December 23rd at 7pm

Saturdays at 9am (our usual confession time throughout the year)

Our Taize Prayer Service will be on Sunday December 4th at 7pm.

We have Advent prayer resources in the vestibule to help you with your personal prayer.

If you’re looking for service opportunities, you might consider getting involved in our new St. Vincent de Paul Conference, making home visits to bring food to our neighbors in need.

Consider making extra donations to our Food Pantry.  Now that our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is up and running, we’re going through our food donations a lot more quickly and can use your help replenishing our stock.

Advent won’t last long, so don’t let this season of Advent get away from you!
