Dear Christ the King family,
This year as we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christie, the most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus, I would ask that you consider not the last supper or the bread of life discourse but the creation story. Now you may wonder what the connection is but give me a minute. It seems that it is easy in our world today to forget a fundamental truth about creation and that is that we were not created for the world. God did not look upon the world and say, Oh something is missing how about I make people. No, the world was created for us as a place for humans created in God’s image and likeness with souls that allow us to relate to God unlike any other creature on Earth. God created the world as a place for us to live, to flourish, and to struggle, to exercise his gift of free will to choose Him or reject Him in the hope that by choosing Him, we will ultimately live forever with Him in heaven. As part of this plan, He revealed himself to man in various ways but ultimately directly by sending Jesus His son, through whom all things were created, to earth in human form, to reveal directly to us the awesomeness of the opportunity we have been given. However, knowing our weakness and need for constant spiritual sustenance, following Jesus sacrificial redeeming death and glorious resurrection he left with us his continual physical presence in the form of the Eucharist. And this he followed up with the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us understand more fully and appreciate this gift of his body and blood. And this continuous Eucharistic presence of Jesus in every Catholic church around the world, available at every hour of every day, to worship, to adore, ask forgiveness and give thanks, to petition for our needs and surrender our fears, is the crown jewel of the world created for one true purpose. To give us a place to seek and find our creator, God our loving Father, through relationship with his Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. So, every time we look around in awe at the world around us, the beauty, the majesty, the intricacy and the brilliance, we should be reminded that it was created by God as a place for us to find God, and the one sure place we can find Him, is in the tabernacle of every church.
