Over the last several weeks, you’ve seen some dates being posted about upcoming activity for the new vestibule. Here’s a little more detail on what those dates mean. As always, these dates are subject to change!
Friday November 8th: asphalt and striping are complete
At this point, we’ll have full use of the sidewalks, the new handicap parking, and the drive in front of the church.
| Thursday, November 14th: new vestibule opens All the interior work for the new vestibule is scheduled to be completed by this date! This means we will have full use of the vestibule. At this point, we’ll lock the temporary entrances (the north entrance and Door #16 by the elevator on the south side of the church). |
Monday November 18th: landscaping is complete
After we’re in the vestibule, there will still be some landscaping work to complete. My expectation is that when this is complete, we’ll get full use of our parking lot again!
Sunday November 24th: Bishop Rhoades presides at 12:15pm and blesses the vestibule after Mass
Mark your calendars! I really want to fill the church when Bishop Rhoades comes to bless the church on our parish feast day, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. We’ll process immediately from Mass into the new vestibule for a vestibule and a light social. (The Bishop will then remain here for our 3pm Confirmation Mass.) I’d love for as many of you to attend this 12:15pm Mass as possible!
Sunday December 8th: 1:30-3:30pm Open House to invite the local community into our new space
I’m very excited about this one. Since this construction project has been noticed and followed by a lot of non-parishioners in our local community, I thought it would be great to invite the whole neighborhood! This is a wonderful and unique chance to get a lot of new faces into our church. So in addition to coming to the blessing and dedication on November 24th, I hope you all can stop by this Open House on December 8th … and most importantly, bring a friend! (More on this in next week’s column.)
Handicap Access
Once the new vestibule is completely open, we’ll lock the current entrances so that all people enter through the new vestibule (by either the north or the south vestibule entrance). This means that handicap access will be from the north vestibule entrance. Handicapped parking will be right near the rectory, and there is an indoor ramp for walker and wheelchair access to the church. (Limiting our entrance points is a very important part of providing for parish security.) Thus, folks with accessibility issues should find this arrangement very similar to what we did before vestibule construction began. The south entrance will be locked, as there won’t be any handicapped parking in that parking lot.
