Advent is upon us! Somehow this season has a way of sneaking up on us, and now we find ourselves at the 2nd Sunday of Advent. Hopefully you’ve begun your Advent preparations through works of prayer and almsgiving, but if your Advent has gotten off to a slow start, don’t worry. You can change that today! We’ve got plenty of ways to help you jump-start your Advent season:
· This year we’re offering 5:30pm evening Masses on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during Advent. In the past we only offered one evening Mass a week during Advent, but there’s been enough of a demand that I’m grateful that we can expand to three days. It’s a great way to spend some time with the Lord on your way home from work.
· We’re also offering confessions every Wednesday at 6pm during Advent, in addition to some extra confession times the week before Christmas. That is in addition to our normal Saturday 9am confessions.
· Don’t forget about our weekly opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration, every Friday from 9am until noon, and Saturdays 8:30am to 10am. If you commit to Adoration, email ador168@sbctk.com to count your prayer toward our parish goal of 168 parishioner-hours of Eucharistic Adoration each week.
· Our Advent Taize service will be in the church on Sunday December 15th at 7pm.
· The Giving Tree is live. This act of almsgiving is also a great way you can support some of our other parish ministries, such as St. Vincent de Paul and our Sister Parish.
· As I write this, we still have some Advent prayer materials available by the Mary statue to aid you in your personal prayer.
Whatever acts of prayer and almsgiving you choose this Advent, just make sure to lock in those commitments soon. The world around us is already well into its Christmas season, but we know that our experience of Christmas will be far deeper if we make sure to give the Advent season the attention it deserves!
