Fr. Steve’s Column 2-18-24

Lent is upon us!  This past Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, which begins our 40 days of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for our celebration of Our Lord’s Resurrection at Easter.  Hopefully you’ve all begun planning out your Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.  As always, I humbly offer these opportunities that our parish provides to make this season the most spiritually fruitful that it can be:

· Weekday Masses:  We’ll again be offering 5:30pm Evening Masses, Monday through Friday during Lent (beginning Thursday February 15th), the perfect opportunity for those of you whose work schedules prevent you from coming to our regular morning Mass.

· Confessions:  We’ll offer extra reconciliation times every Wednesday at 6pm during Lent, plus plenty of additional opportunities during Holy Week.

· Stations of the Cross:  Every Friday at noon and 6pm during Lent – – please note that we’ve moved the evening Stations earlier by an hour from previous years.

· Eucharistic Revival Morning Retreat:  This will take place on Saturday March 9th from 9am until 12pm, a great opportunity to take a morning away for prayer and fellowship.

· Prayer Resources:  We’ll provide some prayer resources during these next couple of weekends that you can use for your personal prayer during Lent.

· Marriage Enrichment:  Married couples might consider our “Couples Prayer” series, which will run for 6 consecutive Sundays (3:30pm—4:30pm) beginning February 18th.  This will be a great chance for spouses to learn to pray together.

· Eucharistic Adoration:  Don’t forget about our Adoration times – – Fridays from 9am to noon, and Saturdays from 8:30am to 10am.

· Fish Fry:  The annual Fish Fry will be on Friday, March 1st.  (I know our breading crew has had this date on their calendar for months!)  Proceeds will benefit our sister parish.

· Almsgiving:  Perhaps you might consider donating food – – or even better, your time! – – to our St. Vincent de Paul conference.  Contact svdp@sbctk.com to learn more.

· Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours will be prayed in the church every Tuesday during Lent after the 8:30am Mass.

· Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours will be prayed in the church every Tuesday during Lent after the 5:30pm Mass.

· Lectio Divina (praying with Scripture) will take place every Thursday morning after the 8:30am Mass.

· Lenten Soup Supper: Friday, March 15th, after Stations of the Cross  in the church basement.

As you can see, there’s plenty going on – – be sure to start planning out your Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving now!
