Fr. Steve’s Column 7-23-2023

Construction is well underway!  Phase I of the project began on July 5th, as our contractor, Majority Builders, began tearing up the entrance onto 933.  Many of you were surprised to see that, but the first step in the project will be to move the entrance further north in our parking lot, which the new design (and particularly the location of the new handicap spaces) will require.  We expect this entrance to be closed until roughly mid-August, with a priority on having it reopened in time for the new school year.  I’ll communicate with you when I have a more exact date.  In the meantime, please enter and exit the property using one of the Darden Road entrances.

During this time, you’ll still be able to use the front doors of the church.  Those will close around mid-August, but I will send you a much more detailed communication before this happens, since this will have a big impact on a lot of things!  Please note that, for those of you who park in the north (rectory) parking lot, we will unlock the North Entrance to the church during Sunday Masses.  These doors have been closed since COVID, but you will be able to access them until construction is completed in July 2024, at which time they will close for good.

Finally, I wanted to update you and let you know how our fundraising is going.  I’ve been so edified by the terrific response from all of you.  To date we have raised over $487,000 of our $500,000 goal, so I expect us to reach our goal shortly.  With that, we will have enough money in the bank to cover the entire cost of our contract.  Of course, we know that the current construction environment is full of surprises, but your generous support of this project has put us in a great position to complete the new vestibule without going into debt or dipping into our savings.  Thank you!!!  I’ll continue to update you as new information becomes available.  In the meantime, please continue to pray for the safety of all those working on our construction project.
