Ministries

Thank you for considering how God is calling you to be a good steward of your time and talent, serving the needs of this parish and our local community.
At Christ the King we encourage a lifestyle of service and stewardship as an awareness that our resources of time, talent, and treasure are gifts from God. It is an essential part of our Christian mission to give back to God the gifts that we have been given through active ministry in our community. We also acknowledge that God creates all of us with unique gifts and charisms that build up the living Body of Christ when they are embraced and nurtured.

Called to Serve, with Hope to Bring

Please use our Ministry Directory below to prayerfully discern how the Lord is inviting you to use your gifts to lift up our parish family and spread the good news of his Gospel!

Hospitality Ministries

Our parish ministers of hospitality are essential for helping us create a welcoming environment for worship, prayer, faith formation, and Christian fellowship. Volunteers help newcomers to our parish feel more welcome, help plan and organize receptions after special Masses, and stand at the welcome desk in the church vestibule before and after weekend Masses to greet and answer any questions guests may have. They also advise the pastoral team on how to be more welcoming to parishioners with disabilities of any kind. Contact Amy to volunteer.

Liturgical Ministries

The liturgy is the “source and summit” of our faith. It is the source of our strength and nourishment, and it is the highlight of our participation in the Christian life. Christ the King offers many opportunities for parishioners to participate as lay ministers in the liturgy. Our prayer is that through these ministries the entire parish community may participate more actively and fully in the Mass.

Music Ministries

Music is an integral part of Catholic worship, and all of the musical ministries at Christ the King are dedicated to a high standard of excellence in liturgical music. These ministries seek to inspire and lead the assembly in a wide variety of hymns, songs, chants, and responses. All who are interested in sharing their musical gifts are welcome—there is a place for everyone! Please do not hesitate to contact Lindsey in the parish office with any questions about how to join our various ensembles.

Outreach Ministries

The Christian Action Commission acts upon the Gospel mandate to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, find shelter for the homeless, visit the lonely, and care for all those in need. Through the many parish service projects, which originate from and are organized by this commission, the parish actively participates in Christian service and outreach to those in need within our local community, and seeks to educate the parish community on issues pertaining to life, peace, health, and justice.

Parish Life

Join the funeral luncheon committee or the Candle/Art & Environment ministry to beautify CTK! Contact Amy to volunteer. Please contact Fr. David Smith, CSC if you are interested in joining the Finance Council or Pastoral Council.

Refugee Resettlement

The Christ the King Refugee Resettlement Ministry partners with Catholic Charities to help refugee families seeking to come to the United States in the process of starting their new life in South Bend. Support we provide includes home furnishings, transportation to various appointments, grocery shopping, English language tutoring, and school enrollment, as well as emotional support.

Respect Life

Our parish ministries seek to provide opportunities for parishioners to participate in activities that support the dignity of life from natural conception to natural death. This Christian work for justice asks that we respect the life of every human person according to the “seamless garment,” caring for individuals from “womb to tomb.”

Social Life & Community Ministries

Apart from prayer, worship, and service, as Christians we are called to build community with one another so as to build up the entire Body of Christ. At Christ the King, we strive to foster a culture of openness and welcome in which parishioners feel that they know each other. In order to do this, we offer a number of social events and ways to celebrate our parish family.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

Dedicated parishioners provide direct service to people in our community who are experiencing poverty, personal crisis, and food insecurity. Our Vincentians help Christ the King to multiply our opportunities to practice the corporal works of mercy as a parish community.

Periodically we review how well our ministries fulfill our mission. We must evaluate the quality, forms and priorities of our commitments as to how effectively they serve the needs of the church and the world.
