Prayers & Devotions

St. Paul exhorts us to "pray without ceasing." Christ the King offers a number of opportunities for prayer throughout the Church year.

“Our thoughts are not easily God's thoughts, nor our wills His will. But as we listen to Him and converse with Him, our minds will be given to understand Him and His designs. The more we come through prayer to relish what is right, the better we shall work in our mission for the realization of the kingdom.” Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross (3.22)

Confessions at Christ the King are available on Saturday mornings between 9:00 and 10:00 AM. During Advent and Lent, confessions are also available on Wednesday evenings between 6:00 and 7:00 PM. Check the bulletin for announcements regarding dates for parish-wide penance services and additional confession times during the weeks preceding both Christmas and Easter. Feel free to reach out to one of the priests at any time to set up an appointment for individual confessions.

Stations of the Cross are prayed every Friday during Lent in the church at both 12:00 noon and 7:00 PM.

Our parish Taizé prayer services during both Advent and Lent are beautiful ways to enter into these sacred seasons of the Church year. These services combine silence and contemplation with the music of Taizé, an international ecumenical community in France. Taizé songs feature repetitive refrains based in Scripture meant to draw us into communion with God in prayer.

Each year on All Souls Day, the parish remembers loved ones from our community who have passed away during the previous year. Family members and friends of the deceased are invited to spend an evening in prayer as we commend all the souls of the faithful departed to the mercy of God.

The parish hosts a choral vespers service for our feast day on the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, each year on the last Sunday in Ordinary Time. Various vocalists and instrumentalists assist with musical selections.
