"The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church's life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church." (CCC #1407)
Children of the parish generally receive First Communion in the spring of their second-grade year during the Easter season. All children preparing for First Communion must be enrolled either in the parish school or the parish Religious Education Program. For children enrolled at Christ the King School, preparation primarily takes place in the school classroom. For children not enrolled at Christ the King School, preparation takes place during Religious Education classes on Sunday mornings from 8:45 until 10:00 AM. Children will make their First Reconciliation at an Advent penance service prior to First Communion, and children will also participate in a day-long retreat the week before they make their First Communion.
For more information about sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion, please contact Teresa in the parish office.
“Before the Lord we learn what is His will to be done, we ask that no one lack daily bread, we dare to match forgiveness for forgiveness and we plead to survive the test. We desire that His name be praised, that His kingdom come and that we be His faithful servants in the planting of it.” —Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross (3.24)
