Dear Christ the King Family,
In Catholicism, “Time, Talent, Treasure” refers to the three core ways we are called to practice stewardship by generously offering back to God the gifts He has given us for building His Kingdom, involving dedicated prayer (Time), using unique skills for service (Talent), and financially supporting the Church and charities (Treasure).
I’d like to take this opportunity to expand on Fr. David’s column from last week. Many of you have shared in the Synod sessions a desire to grow as active disciples in the church. Christ the King has so many ministries to get involved in and there is a large need for volunteers in each. It really does take an entire community of involvement for a church to run successfully. I’ve been a parishioner here for 36 years and I’ve never heard anyone say that any ministry had too many volunteers! In my time here I’ve been a Religious Education Catechist (10 years), involved in Bible Study, Sacristy/Sanctuary Cleaner, and also helped with Parish Receptions. Along with helping in church areas, I also spent a lot of time helping in the school as room parent, serving lunch, working field day, and working as a teacher’s aide. In the last four years of working in the Rectory I’ve been involved in helping and hosting parish receptions, Art & Environment, Sacristan laundry, Sacristy/Sanctuary Cleaning, Fish Fry, and Parish Picnic. My most recent adventure was going through training to become a Sacristan. Being involved in these ministries at Christ the King has given me the opportunity to grow in my faith and my relationship with God as an active disciple. It has also given me the opportunity to meet some great people and make new friends.
Time and talent sign-up forms will be available in the bulletins and on the welcome desk
this weekend. Please take one and pray over it to see where the Holy Spirit is guiding you. You might be interested in a certain ministry but aren’t sure what it is or does. There are ministry directories available to take that will help answer questions you may have. You can also call the office to inquire.
We ask that each year a new form is completed so that our list remains as current as possible. This is also helpful in updating your personal information in the event that you have moved, have a new phone number, or email address. If you are filling out the form as a family, please be sure to list the name of the adult or student next to the check mark for that ministry.
Giving of ourselves through time and talent isn’t just a phrase, but something that God asks of us. Please prayerfully discern where God is calling you this year. As St. Paul reminds us there are different gifts and services, but the same Spirit empowers them all for the common good.
