As I write this column, we are nearing the end of our first-ever Light of the World Retreat here at Christ the King. This is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and our Pastoral Council and Pastoral Team have been talking about bringing a retreat program to our parish since well before the pandemic. Praise God that this weekend has finally arrived and that our 40 retreatants filled the retreat to capacity!
I think the best way to talk about the fruits of this retreat is to let the retreatants speak for themselves! Here are just a few of the observations that our retreatants offered on the last evening of the retreat:
“The whole retreat was a renewal of my Catholic faith…what a blessing it is to the parish to have this retreat.”
“The Adoration …was amazing. I want everyone in the parish to experience that.”
“I really enjoyed the stillness and the time with Jesus…I really treasured that time…Renewing our sacraments was touching and beautiful.”
“I really liked all the reflections on the sacraments…it’s wonderful to have this different perspective that I can share.”
“I’m very thankful for…the presentation on the Holy Spirit. It really landed with me.”
“I hope this retreat will give us the power to go and evangelize the world like we should.”
I’m so very grateful for Rianna Doyle, who worked tirelessly to make this retreat happen; to the Light of the World team who came in to lead us; and most of all to our terrific parishioners who participated in the retreat. Witnessing the movement of the Holy Spirit among them all was very moving and makes me so grateful for the tremendous faith that exists among our parishioners.
