It’s a big weekend for Christ the King!
The New Narthex Is Open! I’m so excited that we have finally been able to move into this new space. I know that parishioners have wished for years that we would have a better space to gather, and I’m so grateful that this is now a reality. I am grateful to so many people, from the committee of parishioners who suggested this in the first place and then worked so diligently to plan the space so thoughtfully; to our architect and all of the contractors who did such high quality work; to all of you who supported this project with your donations and prayers, all the while being so gracious about the inconveniences that came along with the construction. I know that this space will yield great benefits for our parish community, and I hope you are all pleased with the results!
The Bishop will bless our new narthex on Sunday after the 12:15pm Mass. We are so blessed to have our Shepherd, Bishop Rhoades, with us to preside at the 12:15pm Mass. He will bless the narthex immediately afterwards, followed by a light reception. I hope that all of you can join us.
Confirmation will take place this afternoon. The Bishop will have a full day here at Christ the King! Many of our young people will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at a separate Mass on Sunday afternoon. Please pray for them, that the outpouring of the Spirit that they receive in this Sacrament will transform them into zealous, lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ.
Don’t forget about our Open House on Sunday December 8th from 1:30 to 3:30pm. After the Bishop blesses the new narthex this weekend, we’re not done! We’ll have an Open House so that we can welcome the local community into this beautiful new space. As I’ve mentioned before, I think this is a great opportunity to invite people to see our church, whether they are people we know who have fallen away from the Faith or who simply don’t belong to a worshiping community. I will have more details in next week’s column about how each of you can play an active role in evangelizing our community and welcoming people to our parish. For now, I’d simply ask every parishioner to think of one person that you would like to invite to this Open House, and then to spend the week praying (and perhaps even fasting) for them. This is a crucial step in leading others to Christ.
